Firefighters get fined for speeding, running red lights

Seems all is not well in the NSW (Aust) firefighting world where drivers of fire trucks are getting traffic fines  for running red lights and speeding on their way to emergencies.

While the union is taking a typically hard line approach to what can be simply resolved through a suggested change to the administrative procedure, it seems the public might be the ones to really feel the effects.

The Union is suggesting that all road rules will be followed, including stopping at red lights till they change to green.

Crikey! - ‘Steve Irwin’ ship to confront Japanese whalers

A ship belonging to the anti-whaling Sea Shepherd group has been renamed in memory of wildlife conservationist Steve Irwin.

The ship, previously called the Robert Hunter, is about to sail from Melbourne to the Antarctic, where it will try to stop Japanese whalers from killing humpback and other whales buy using loud speakers to boom “Crikey!” at them 24 hours per day.

Shop Owners Strip In Protest

Small businesses owners who say they went bankrupt because of the design of a Lend Lease shopping centre have stripped down to their underwear in protest outside the company’s annual general meeting.

More than 80 businesses went bankrupt at the Erina Fair complex on Australia’s New South Wales Central Coast in 2003.
