Apes set to be able to vote in Spain

I always thought the Spanish were a bit hairy, but it seems not hairy enough as gorillas and monkeys now have the same rights in Spain as humans.

So watch out for who is driving the car next to you on your next driving holiday to Spain, carries your bag at the hotel (Manuel) and even vote in the next election.

I guess it is only a matter of time before we see great ape politicians - though some would argue there have been several in the past.

From Reuters

Spain’s Parliament has voiced its support for the rights of great apes to life and freedom in what will apparently be the first time any national legislature has called for such rights for non-humans.

Parliament’s environmental committee approved resolutions urging Spain to comply with the Great Apes Project devised by scientists and philosophers who say our closest genetic relatives deserve rights in the past limited to humans.
