Pensioners strip in protest
Pensioners in Melbourne Australia, stripped in public yesterday in protest at the low level of the base pension.
The antic caused traffic mayhem as drivers craned their necks to see the older Aussies prancing about in their undergarments.
Organiser of the protest, Mrs Mavis Simms, said this was the only way she knew to attract the government’s attention.
“My neighbour, Fred Bartlett had other ideas, but you don’t so that sort of thing in public, so I have asked him to come around to my unit later and he can have his way then.”
A driver we spoke to said it was the most amazing sight he has seen in a long time.
“I think they look much better with their clothes on…there are a lot of bits wobbling about they really need more support, and that guy in the y-fronts….”
Pensioners are upset that the new Rudd Labor Government did not increase the pension in the Budget released earlier this week.
The Prime Minister had no comment but Opposition Leader, Dr Brendon Nelson said, “If paying the oldies a couple of bucks extra each week will stop them making fools of themselves then i am all for it.”
