Don’t rob a bank when there is a cop behind you

In bizarre tale from Boston, USA, comes the story of Adam Grennan who decided to rob a bank.

But just like those emails that go around spreading the word about how dumb some thieves are (like the ones who put their real names on demand notes), this guy is headed for infamy, as well as prison.

As the Boston Globe reported (again don’t American journos do ANY training in writing?):

Grennan drew immediate suspicion when he entered Mt. Washington Bank at 489 Gallivan Blvd. at about 10:44 a.m., wearing large white gloves, an oversized hooded parka, and a scarf that covered his face.

A cop in the bank working a security role saw Grennan on security cameras and started to make his way towards him.

At the same time, an assistant manager started banging on the office door, warning Pritchard that a suspicious character looked like he was about to attempt a robbery. Eight bank employees became nervous, Pritchard said.

As Grennan turned around, Pritchard had his gun drawn and arrested him. The bank was closed for several hours as officers flooded the scene. Grennan was searched but was unarmed, according to the police report.

Your Real News contacted a customer who was in the bank at the time, Mr Ira Weinstien who said the arrest was nearly blown by people who started to snigger.”It was pretty funny, seeing this guy so focussed on doing the robbery that he did not notice the cop walking up behind him.

“I kept looking around cos’ I thought we were on some joke TV skit, and that it was all a setup.”

Mr Weinstien said he wished he had a camera at the time to capture the look of confusion on Grennan’s face when he turned around and was looking down the barrel of a gun.

“He just had this ‘what are you doing here’ kind of look on his face.”
